To begin with, its tropical climate offers sunshine all year round. A luxuriant fauna and flora (4,200, it is the number of species of plants and ferns in Florida. There are also 250 species of fish, 45 species of snakes, 6 of which are poisonous, almost 500 species of birds, and 1,500 vertebrates of all kinds.

The only marine sanctuary, the Florida Keys Marine Sanctuary, covers more than 4,200 km2. The state park system includes some 158 protected areas. There are over 6,000 coral reefs in Florida.

A dynamic and retreating population implies a great concentration of wealth. The total population of Florida is 21,993,000 in 2020. This makes it the 3rd most populous state in the United States. To give you an idea of the population growth, you should know that this same population was only 5 million in 1960. Migration has contributed to about 90% of this growth. Florida has an average population density of 136 inhabitants per square kilometer and 90% of this population lives within 30 km of the shore.

The average age of a Florida resident is 41.6 years, but it has the largest concentration of retirees in the U.S.; 20.5% of its population is over 65.

The state of Florida offers tax incentives for economic development.  There is no income tax in Florida and more interestingly, the state constitution prohibits the institution of such a tax! The official unemployment rate is 3.1% in 2019.

The Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in 2008 was : $950.76 billion in 2019, which ranks the state of Florida 4th in the nation.

The median income in Florida is significantly lower than the United States $54,644 versus $63,179 in 2018. The average Florida income is 18th in the state rankings.
